History
The Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation, Inc. is a leadership, educational, and charitable organization dedicated to the empowerment of individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities. It is an independent, non-partisan, certified State CHDO, non-profit corporation chartered under the Texas Non-profit Corporation Act. It is tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Service Code (501) ( c) (3) (Federal I.D. Number 76-0406999).
Founded in May 1993, the mission of the Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation, Inc., as stated in its charter, is to engage in comprehensive community development, for the purpose of improving the quality of life for individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities in Southeast Texas. The thrust of the corporation includes any and all things which contribute to effective community development. Specifically, the Corporation's efforts include, but are not limited to, leadership development, human resources development, health services, education, improving social systems and public policies, civic education, recreation and leisure time activities, crisis intervention, preserving history and culture, research and development, business and economic development, affordable housing, infrastructure improvements, crime prevention, prevention of juvenile and adult delinquency, prevention of drug and substance abuse, safe and clean physical environment, development of neighborhood associations, and other efforts and activities which ensure a vitalized community.
The Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation, Inc. serves Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Kountze, Silsbee, Lumberton, Sour Lake, Grayburg, Bevil Oaks, Pose Hill Acres, Pine Forest, Nome, China, Rose City, Vidor, Pinehurst, West Orange, Bridge City, Port Neches, Nederland, Groves and unincorporated communities in Jefferson, Hardin and Orange Counties.
Under its charter, Southeast Texas Community Development Corporation, Inc. is authorized to solicit and receive contributions, fees, gifts, grants, contracts, devises, legacies, transfers or bequests or real or personal property or both from individuals, institutions, public or private corporations, and to maintain, exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary or education activities in order to aid and benefit comprehensive community development.
